East High School honors our alumni who have served our country. Unique to Rockford East High School is the Gold Star display. A gold star represents a family member that died during service, without specifying the cause of death. The Gold Star Boys were first recognized at East by the building principal, Harry C. Muth. Mr. Muth began writing the eulogies with the first East High casualty, Staff Sgt. Sven Arnold Zetterbeg. In total, East has 34 Gold Star Boys.
